Týr Privacy Policy
Effective October 1, 2026
Týr — Monitor ChatGPT Usage is an independent browser extension from Electric Squid Studio. It displays usage limits for the ChatGPT account currently signed in at chatgpt.com. Týr is not made by, affiliated with, or endorsed by OpenAI.
Information Týr accesses and why
Týr handles only information needed to show usage limits and preserve your display preferences:
- Authentication information: On chatgpt.com, Týr reads the current session response and uses its access token in memory to authenticate a request for usage information. The token is not written to Týr's storage or intentionally logged.
- Account information: Týr reads an account or workspace identifier to keep custom display names separate for different signed-in accounts. If an identifier is unavailable, an email address may be used as the local account key. An account or workspace name, email address, or user name may appear in the extension popup so you can tell which account's name you are editing.
- Usage information: Týr reads available usage windows, remaining amounts or percentages, and reset times from ChatGPT so it can render the five-hour and weekly limit bars. A recent reading is cached locally for display.
- User activity for widget placement: When you drag the widget, Týr uses pointer movement to place it and saves only its final screen position. It does not record a history of pointer movements.
- Display preferences: Custom names for each account and the widget position are stored locally. Týr also reads ChatGPT's page accent color to match the widget's appearance; it does not transmit that color.
Information Týr does not collect
Týr does not read or collect your prompts, conversation text, uploaded files, personal messages, passwords, payment or financial details, health information, location, or browsing history. It does not collect or retain histories of clicks, keystrokes, or scrolling, or activity on websites other than the ChatGPT page needed to display the widget. It does not build an advertising profile.
How information is transmitted and shared
To retrieve usage information, Týr makes authenticated HTTPS requests directly from your browser to chatgpt.com, including ChatGPT's session and usage endpoints. OpenAI receives and processes those requests as the operator of ChatGPT. OpenAI may also process ordinary request metadata, such as network and device information, under its own terms and privacy practices. See OpenAI's Privacy Policy.
Týr does not send information to Electric Squid Studio, a Týr-operated server, analytics providers, advertising networks, or data brokers. Týr does not sell user data. No other third-party sharing is built into the extension.
Local storage and retention
Custom account names, the local account keys used to associate those names, the widget's final position, the latest usage reading, and small upgrade-compatibility settings (including an existing legacy display name or a migration marker) are stored in the browser's local extension storage. These values remain in that browser profile until replaced, cleared, or removed with the extension. The session access token is used in memory for the request and is not retained by Týr.
You can change an account's display name in the extension popup and move the widget on ChatGPT. You can stop Týr from accessing ChatGPT by disabling or uninstalling it in your browser's extension settings. Uninstalling removes Týr's local extension data according to the browser's storage behavior.
Security and limited use
Týr uses HTTPS for its requests to ChatGPT and limits its use of account, authentication, and usage information to providing and maintaining its single purpose: displaying ChatGPT usage limits. Týr does not use this information for advertising, creditworthiness or lending decisions, or purposes unrelated to that feature. Týr's handling of user data is intended to comply with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.
Changes to this policy
If Týr's data practices change, this policy will be updated before the changed practices are introduced. The effective date at the top identifies the latest revision.
